The Society of Architectural Historians will expand the tour program of its National Historic Landmark headquarters, the Charnley-Persky House, during the Chicago Architecture Biennial. Guided tours of the house will be offered every Wednesday and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. from October 7 through December 23. Designed by Louis Sullivan of the firm Adler & Sullivan (1891–1982), the Charnley-Persky House is one of the few extant buildings that displays the combined talents of Louis Sullivan and his then-draftsman, Frank Lloyd Wright. The Charnley-Persky House is recognized as a seminal house in the development of modern residential design as well as a keystone in the architectural philosophies of Sullivan and Wright. These tours further SAH’s mission by promoting meaningful public engagement with the history of the built environment.
