Chicago's Near South Side neighborhood is a microcosm of the physical change experienced by Chicago throughout its history. Originally the city's premier 19th-century residential neighborhood centered on Prairie Avenue, the area then transformed in the early 20th century to commercial and industrial uses. The tour will feature interiors of the Glessner House, one of Henry Hobson Richardson's last designs, and Second Presbyterian Church, a National Historic Landmark noted for its Arts-and-Crafts interior, plus a walking tours of Prairie Avenue. Tour will be led by William Tyre, executive director and curator, Glessner House Museum.
