Stanley Tigerman will discuss his 2015 New Titanic along with the opening of a special exhibit that includes a selection of past and recent work featuring the 1978 “Titanic” photomontage.
Opening of Celebrating a Chicago Icon. The exhibit is a two-fold tribute to both the historic The Titanic photomontage and its author, Stanley Tigerman, one of the CAC and Chicago’s most renowned architectural provocateurs and personalities on the world stage. On October 22nd Stanley Tigerman will also launch the Come to the Table panel series discussing the State of the Art of Architecture Today.
Come to the Table is an installation made of reconfigurable elements that serve as a platform for dialogue. The construct is a framework to engage local architects, artists and thinkers in questioning What is the State of the Art of Architecture Today?
A principal in the Chicago architectural and design firm of Tigerman McCurry and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Stanley Tigerman has thus far designed over 450 buildings and installations around the world throughout his 51 years in private practice. He was the founding member of “The Chicago Seven” as well as the Chicago Architectural Club. In 2008, Mr. Tigerman was named the recipient of the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education as well as the AIA Illinois Gold Medal in recognition of outstanding lifetime service. This year, Stanley Tigerman was honored by AIA Chicago with the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award. The author of seven books, he recently completed an essay on “erring” for Perspecta, Yale Architecture School’s journal due out in the fall and is currently working on his next manuscript on “Aura: Unattainable Architectural Longings.”
