The “Building Blocks” series brings together an exciting mix of artists, makers and thinkers to explore ideas around and beyond the built environment as well as notions of what constitutes place (literally and figuratively, physically and virtually) in their work.
Minneapolis-based choreographer Chris Schlichting and visual artist Jennifer Davis will discuss their recent collaboration Stripe Tease, which makes its Chicago premiere on November 20 and 21 at Storefront Theater. Schlichting will discuss his dance-making in relationship to the class he teaches at the University of Minnesota, “Choreography as Architecture.”

Chris Schlichting
Chris Schlichting was named Best Choreographer 2013 by City Pages for his work Matching Drapes, which also received two Sage Awards, for Best Performance and Best Design. He is the first recipient of American Dance Institute’s Solange MacArthur Award for New Choreography. His work has been commissioned by Danspace Project at St. Mark’s, New York; James Sewell Ballet; Walker Art Center; the Southern Theater; Young Dance; and Zenon Dance Company.
Jennifer Davis
Jennifer Davis has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the Minneapolis Institute of Art; the DeVos Art Museum; Public Functionary; Soo Visual Arts Center; Foster Gallery; Lesher Center for the Arts; the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum; Bloomington Art Center; and Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, as well as galleries in major cities across the United States. Davis is a recipient of the 2013 Next Step Fund grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council/McKnight Foundation. She holds a BFA from the University of Minnesota.
