Widely known for her photographs, since the 1970s Barbara Kasten has developed an expansive practice through the lens of painting, textile, sculpture, theater, architecture, and installation. Organized in conversation with the artist and with full access to her extensive archive, Barbara Kasten: Stages spans the artist’s five-decade engagement with abstraction, light, and architectural form, highlighting her critical engagement with architecture and her impact on a new generation of artists. This exhibition features Kasten’s new site-specific video installation that transforms the ballroom of the Graham Foundation’s historic Madlener House.

Barbara Kasten: Stages is organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Philadelphia, and is curated by Alex Klein.
