In honor of the Chicago Architecture Biennial, join us for a screening and discussion of the Senegalese film Hyenas (1992) with Emily Osborn (University of Chicago, African Studies). In this biting satire of today’s Africa, a wealthy woman revisits her hometown and offers villagers a devil’s bargain, leading to a consumerist orgy that plays out almost entirely in public spaces, including a garish amusement park where even the stars have been replaced by fireworks. While this event is free and open to the public, space is limited so please rsvp at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/architecture-and-black-cinema-tickets-18811916950
