Rural Urban Framework

Hong Kong

Rural Urban Framework is the design and research collaborative of Joshua Bolchover and John Lin, established in response to the Chinese government’s announcement that it planned to urbanize half of the remaining 700 million rural citizens by 2030. Hosted by The University of Hong Kong, RUF provides design services to charities and NGOs working in Chinese villages on projects such as schools, hospitals, housing and incremental planning strategies. Their approach integrates local construction practices with contemporary technologies, in addition to in-depth social and economic research on the transformation of Chinese villages.
