David Schalliol is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Chicago's Department of Sociology. His work explores the transformation of urban centers through hybrid ethnographic, filmic, and photographic projects. His writing and photographs have appeared in such publications as the Design Observer, The New York Times, and The American Sociologist, as well as in numerous exhibitions. His first book, Isolated Building Studies (Utakatado, 2014) is a photographic exploration of Chicago’s infrastructure, addressing the impact of investment processes on the urban community. He is currently making an ethnographic film about the displacement of more than 400 families in the South Side of Chicago.
